TÜSİAD’s Management Board has issued a statement following the General Elections held on 12th June 2011. The statement contains the following views:
Our expectations from the new parliament are; a Turkey that finalizes the new Constitution in the context of wide participation and consensus, that covers ground with respect to EU membership, increases employment capacity and decreases unemployment while ensuring economic stability.
Our expectations from the Turkish Grand National Assembly and the new government that will be formed can be grouped in three parallel processes:
• A unifying new Constitution based on the individual and formulated in a participatory and consensual spirit.
• The consolidation of the European Union membership process that is Turkey’s most significant anchor in terms of a pluralist democracy, high standards of living and sustainable development.
• In order to strengthen macroeconomic stability and secure sustainable growth;
a) The protection and reinforcement of financial stability and price stability by means of compatible monetary and fiscal policies,
b) The realization of micro reforms stressed in the “New Industrial Strategy” in order to achieve productivity- based and sustainable growth,
c) The strengthening of employment capacity and reduction of unemployment.
We believe that by correctly directing Turkey’s energy, our political institutions will resolve Turkey’s structural problems and anomalies during the period of the new parliamentary term. As an independent and voluntary representative body of the business world that has just passed its 40th year, we confirm our readiness to play our full part along the way, and wish every success to the 24th term of the Turkish Grand National Assembly."
