Regional Innovation Centres: A Model for Turkey

The “Regional Innovation Centres Project” (T-BİM) initiated by the Turkish Industrialists’ and Businessmen’s Association (TÜSİAD), Turkish Enterprise and Business Confederation (TÜRKONFED), TÜSİAD-Sabancı University Competitiveness Forum (REF), the National Innovation Initiative (UİG) and supported by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) aims the establishment of regional innovation centres that will operate on a sectoral basis in Turkey. The regional innovation centres will be established in the seven regions of Turkey and under the coordination of the federations affiliated to TÜRKONFED. The target is for the centres to act as sectoral-oriented innovation interfaces in the regions they will be functioning. In this way, structures applying innovation as an important tool in regional development will be put into practice.
