The first report titled “March Towards Equality Between Women and Men: Education, Professional Life and Politics” and prepared in order to define the will of realising equality between women and men in Turkey and the policies directed at implementation and to discuss and overcome the existing problems, was published by TÜSİAD in 2000. Making use of important data sources on a national scale, this report established the problems related to the fundamental three areas to which intervention is primarily needed in Turkey –the education of women and women’s participation to professional and political life- and puts forward recommendations for solutions by evaluating the capacities devoted to the solution of these problems. The report you have in your hand, “Gender Inequality in Turkey: Challenges, Priorities and Suggestions” aims to update the report mentioned above as of the end of 2007 and in addition includes a new chapter that focuses on the practices directed at the realisation of equality between women and men during the European Union membership process.
