Turkish Industry: A Sectoral Overview

The study, “Turkish Industry: A Sectoral Overview” aims to, from this viewpoint, unravel the current situation of the manufacturing sector and its potentials with a systematic approach. In this framework, understanding how the policy changes with a deep impact on the manufacturing sector’s structure as of the 1980’s have shaped the development in this sector as well as taking the inventory of the level reached by the sector has been targeted. It has been considered that, in this way, the strong and fragile aspects of the sector’s current structure could be exposed with an impartial overlook and that, in connection, a more concrete outlook of the details regarding the future-oriented potentials of the sector could be displayed. Undoubtedly, as a general characteristic of studies on economics, this paper does not claim to make a futuristic conjecture regarding the future. However; having a firm accumulation of knowledge on the development realised by the manufacturing sector recently together with the point it has reached is an element that could contribute to making the right decisions. It is obvious that contriving policies and strategies in an environment wherein knowledge is ambiguous and vague is difficult. On the other hand; accumulation of knowledge supported by an objective approach and quantitative and qualitative analyses is considered to facilitate the contemplation of policy and strategy.
